FdSc Sports Coaching, Education & Development

The FdSc Sports Coaching, Education and Development programme is a highly vocational course that embeds the principles of work based learning within all of the modules studied.Alongside the vocational elements of the programme the learners also study a range of underpinning theories that facilitate their development.

Study Details

You will study on the Lincoln College Campus for the full duration of the course.

Full Time - 2 Years; Course contact hours are to be confirmed.

Whilst the sessions delivered at College will typically fall between Monday and Friday from 9am – 5pm, it is expected that students will complete the online study, in addition to the independent study, outside of these times. Students should also make themselves available to complete work experience hours outside of these times. Many of the opportunities offered through the college will require commitment during evenings and weekends.

A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff points from the following:

BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject

GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level

Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher

For mature applicants some experience may be taken in lieu of qualifications that carry UCAS Tariff points.

Plus

GCSE English Language- Grade 4/C or above

GCSE Maths - Grade 4/C or above

(Level 2 Functional Skills is not taken as an equivalent)

EU and International applicants

NARIC confirmed equivalent of 64 UCAS Tariff points

IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in each component

Equivalent English language qualifications are acceptable for applicants not requiring a Tier 4 student visa

There are typically 2-3 assessment tasks per module delivered. The assessment methods used throughout the programme include:

Progression

The course is designed to prepare and aid learners for a career in the sports coaching, teaching and sports development industries. Many previous learners have attained employment within these fields on completion of their Foundation Degree, whilst others have chosen to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching, Development and Pedagogy (Top Up) at Lincoln College.

Tuition fees will remain unchanged for the duration of a student’s continuous enrolment.

Additional Course Costs

Sports kit - £130 (compulsory) ; DBS check - £47.80 (compulsory); Additional coaching courses (optional)- varying costs

Additional compulsory course costs will be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary. The scheme allows students to access the remainder of the bursary (up to a maximum value of £500 / £250) for additional optional courses, workshops, professional memberships and resources. There is no cash alternative. Students who wish to access opportunities in excess of the Career Degree Bursary may do so at full cost to themselves.
