This programme provides a general introduction to the health and social care services. This course adopts a student centred approach to study, whereby you will learn to take charge of your own studying, to work both in groups and on your own and to develop a wide range of skills which will equip you for work in the caring professions. Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care, or into employment within the sector. During the course of this programme, you will study: Health Promotion; Individual Rights in Health and Social Care; Care Values and Human Life Span.
You will need 4 GCSEs to include English Language (minimum grade D or equivalent). If you are progressing from a CACHE Level 1 Childcare; you must have completed Level 1 Literacy, with the ability to work at Level 2 English. You are also required to have two good references (one must be from an employer or a recent school/college report). It is essential for all candidates to have an enhanced DBS check before they can go into any Health and Social Care setting.
Candidates must be aware that if they have received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may prohibit them from enrolling on a Health and Social Care programme and gaining employment in a care or childcare setting.
Assessment is a combination of continuous assessment throughout the year, the production of a Portfolio of Evidence and two externally assessed exams.
