This programme is designed to meet the requirements of engineering trainees undertaking formal training in engineering with optional bias towards either production or technician. It is also designed to meet the requirements of local and national employers seeking to employ new engineering staff.
Successful completion of the course will allow progression to on-going full-time Level 3 studies on BTEC Subsidiary Diploma or part time study on the EAL Advanced Diploma in Engineering Level 3.
The units that you will study include: Health and Safety; Working Efficiently and Effectively; Engineering Technology; Communication in an Engineering Environment; Engineering Calculations; Planning Engineering Activity and Bench Fitting and The Use of Milling Machines and Lathes.
You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply however the nature of both the learning and assessment required for the qualification is such that you should be working at Grade C or above in English and Mathematics. An ability to understand and carry out exact instructions is essential due to the nature of the activities. You will also be required to pass a trade test as-well as a literacy and numeracy test. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
