IT and Computer Servicing Level 3

“To be clear this is a specialised course aimed at learners who want to progress into the computing industry.

We do not train you to use office products, accounts or photo editing software; the course will include the following units:

• Information Technology Systems

• Creating Databases to Manage Information

• Using Social Media in Business

• Website Development

As an IT student in Newark you will be given the opportunity to apply for a place on the College Partnership Scheme with Team Knowhow, who are located just off the A1 north of Newark. Team Knowhow have a workforce of nearly 10,000 and are the services brand for all technology sold by Dixons Carphone. Being Europe’s largest repair centre and with colleagues on-the-phone, in-store, on-the road and behind-the-scenes, they ensure that customers get the most out of their everyday devices and appliances.

You will need 5 GCSE’s including English Language and Mathematics (minimum Grade 4/C or equivalent).

The qualification you will be studying is a BTEC National and if you have not achieved a grade 4 in either English or maths while you are/were at school, you will be enrolled at Lincoln College on a Level 2 course to complete the subject as part of your programme of study.

You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report). At your interview, you will be required to demonstrate knowledge and a practical ability in IT and computing.

You will be required to provide evidence of previous IT knowledge and skills in the form of a portfolio.

Assessment is by written coursework, exam and external assessment.

What courses and careers could this lead to?

Studying a Level 3 computing qualification at Newark College could lead to an apprenticeship with Team Knowhow or exciting entry level job opportunities including roles such as web developer, network administrator, or computer technician or progressing to further study at Level 3 at Lincoln College with the possibility, if successful, to study a Computer Science degree, Institute of Technology Diploma.
