We offer a wide range of courses that provide extra support and learning to prepare you for your chosen career.

Students follow an individualised study programme moving on to further learning, greater independence or employment. All full-time programmes have the following strands of learning:

  • A future work focus of Catering, Construction, Creative and Performing Arts, Customer Service & Retail, Health & Social Care or Sport – developing practical skills in your chosen subject area.
  • Functional Skills – working on your English and maths skills.
  • Tutorial, Enrichment and Personal Development opportunities.
  • Employability Skills & Work Experience

We have a large team of specialist staff who can assess the support needs of learners who identify themselves or are referred by tutors. The team provides support, specialist equipment and adapted resources. They are also responsible for arranging exam concessions and extra time for students with special educational needs, a disability or health problems.

For more information on local support for those with special educational needs and disability visit the Lincolnshire County Council website.

The ultimate aim is paid employment so you need to be ready for work with the appropriate guidance and support.

ESOL

Welcome to our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) programme at Lincoln College. ESOL is designed to cater to the language learning needs of individuals from diverse linguistic backgrounds. The course runs from September to June, offering a full-time programme with classes at mixed proficiency levels ranging from Entry 1 to Level 1. This structure ensures that students are able to progress onto courses within the college or go to university, confidently enter the workforce, or enhance their language skills for effective communication.

Throughout the academic year, students engage in comprehensive language development, covering speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The curriculum emphasizes skills such as effective communication, active participation in discussions, and improvement in spelling, grammar, pronunciation and punctuation. Beyond the classroom, students have exciting opportunities including local trips, team-building activities, social action projects, and valuable work experience.

Classes take place during daytime hours, typically from 9 am to 4 pm, four days a week. Our experienced and friendly team conducts a brief initial assessment in speaking, listening, reading, and writing to tailor the best options for each student. While full-time courses primarily cater to 16-18 year olds, they incorporate enriching elements like trips and work experience directly into the curriculum.

Throughout the course, students undertake three exams, and successful completion opens doors to progress to the next level of ESOL. We offer help, guidance and support at every stage of your language learning journey.

Our integrated programme includes various learning strands integral to the course:

  • ESOL: Grammar, Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, and Pronunciation
  • British Culture
  • Maths – Functional Skills or GCSE
  • Tutorial Session (preparing for employment and further study)
  • Termly one-to-one personal reviews with an ESOL Progress Coach
  • Digital Skills
  • Work Experience – 30 hour

For those interested in joining our ESOL programme, please contact our admin office to schedule an appointment for an initial assessment. You can reach us at: esol@lincolncollege.ac.uk
