Skills for Catering - Lincoln

This is an Entry Level to Level 1 programme which gives learners the opportunity to develop and increase their understanding of the Catering Industry. Learners will be studying at Queens Park, where they will work in a Cafe open to the public, producing fresh meals daily. Learners will work in all areas of the business including cooking, baking, front-of-house serving customers and using the till. Learners will work closely with our Creative Art learners together on projects and help with upcoming events.

Learners will gain practical skills in hospitality and catering such as:

• Food safety

• Healthy Eating

• Hospitality and customer service skills

• Knife skills, butchery and fish preparation

• Menu planning and cooking for events

No formal entry requirements needed but the right candidate should be working at Entry Level, have a desire to progress, a strong interest in catering and a willingness to learn. Learners will be interviewed to identify their specific requirements. An English and Maths assessment will also be carried out at interview to determine the correct level for each learner.

Progress is assessed by observation of practical and personal skills and a written portfolio of evidence.


This course offers learners support with their studies and the curriculum is geared to get learners to progress their independent living skills and develop themselves in ways which will assist them to make the transition onto mainstream studies or supported employment. Learners are encouraged to progress onto a Hospitality and Catering Level 1 / Level 2 course.
