Skills for Customer Service and Retail

This is an Entry Level to Level 1 programme which is designed to help learners gain knowledge and an understanding in the different aspects of a Customer Service and Retail working environment. Learners will have the opportunity to run their own shop on the college campus, selling a variety of handmade and bought-in products. Learners will gain practical skills in customer service, stock control, market research, health and safety, marketing, along with routine shop tasks such as using the till, pricing and displaying goods.

There are no formal entry requirements needed. However, the right candidate should have a desire to progress, a strong interest in Customer Service and Retail and a willingness to learn.

Progress is assessed by observation of practical and personal skills and a written portfolio of evidence.


This course offers learners support with their studies and the curriculum is geared to get learners to progress their independent living skills and develop themselves in ways which will assist them to make the transition onto mainstream studies or supported employment.
