This is an Entry Level to Level 1 programme which is aimed at learners who would benefit from extra support in their learning and are looking at building the required skills for a career in the sports industry. The Skills for Sport course is ideal for learners who enjoy active sports and is a tailored programme focused on developing confidence, independence and the soft skills required to successfully achieve goals. Learners will help to organise and participate in sports events and compete in regular inter-college tournaments. Learners will have access to excellent indoor and outdoor sport facilities, which cater for football, badminton, table-tennis, gym, basketball, cricket and much more.
All full-time programmes have the following strands of learning:
• Vocational – practical skills in their chosen subject and area of learning interest
• Functional Skills – English and Maths
• Tutorial / Enrichment activities
• Employability skills and personal development
• Actual or simulated work experience in enterprise based activities
You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply but it is advisable that you are working at entry level and show willingness to work and a desire to progress. You will undertake a literacy and numeracy assessment during the interview process, to determine the correct level of study.
Assessment is a combination of practical activities and collation of work in a portfolio.
This course offers learners support with their studies and the curriculum is geared to get learners to progress their independent living skills and develop themselves in ways which will assist them to make the transition onto mainstream studies or supported employment.
