2017 Lincoln College Career Degree Graduation

October 05 2017

More than 280 students from 29 Lincoln College Career Degree programmes graduated at Lincoln Cathedral last night.

Local students and their families were joined by those who travelled back to Lincoln from across the country for the ceremony, which included an address from guest of honour, Air Vice Marshall Warren James.

Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland said he was honoured to join families in celebrating the academic success of the graduates.

“These events truly are the best part of leading the Group and I know this is a sentiment shared by all of our staff,” he said.

“To join our students and their loved ones and take time to celebrate the culmination of so much hard work and so much support offered by families is a real privilege.

“I wish all of our students the very best in their future careers and I sincerely hope that, through Lincoln College Alumni and Friends, we will continue to support and nurture their development.”

Lincoln College Career Degrees have been awarded Teaching and Excellence Framework Silver Status.

Student Satisfaction has reached 94 per cent – better than any other higher education institution in the City. Employability rates have risen to 97 per cent and the average earnings of Lincoln College Graduates are £24,500 just six months after graduation.

Mr Headland said: “The quality of our higher education programmes, which are more cost effective for students than alternative options, is excellent. For local students they offer the ability to stay close to home while studying and the flexibility of our part-time courses means it’s possible to upskill or retrain for a new career while still working.”

Every year Lincoln College recognises the significant contribution of a friend to the College by awarding them a Companionship of Lincoln College Alumni and Friends.

This year the honour was awarded to Grp Cpt Paul McClurg in recognition of the partnership role he played in the establishment of the UK’s first Air and Defence Career College at Lincoln College.

Mr Headland said: “Paul is a true friend to Lincoln College Group. His unwavering and tireless efforts to support us in the launch and continued success of the Air and Defence Career College have been incredible. We are now working with Paul, the Royal Air Force and other college partners to roll out the model across the UK.”

Grp Cpt McClurg said he was honoured to be made a companion of the College’s alumni association.

“What we have achieved working together over the last couple of years has been extremely rewarding and seeing the first Air and Defence Career College students entering the Royal Air Force this year is obviously amazing for them and their families, but also the culmination of a lot of hard work by college and RAF staff.” he said.

“I have attended the higher education graduation several times now and it is always great to experience the joy and pride of the families involved. To be recognised as part of this ceremony was a real honour and I look forward to contributing to the future development of the College as an alumni companion.”
