Students can apply now to courses at the Newark Air & Defence College (A&DC) to train for secure and lucrative careers as aircraft engineers, cyber communications specialists and RAF Regiment Gunners.
This expansion into the town comes on the back of the success of the A&DC since opening at Lincoln College in September 2016. It trains more than 100 students a year at Lincoln College, New College Stamford and the College of West Anglia.
This announcement is part of a Lincoln College Group (LCG) strategy to continue to develop and grow Newark College to better meet the needs of local and regional employers.
LCG is working closely with Newark and Sherwood District Council and the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership and will be making further announcements in the coming months.
Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland said he was delighted to be opening the Air & Defence College satellite provision at Newark College.
“This is fantastic news for young people living in the area. The A&DC is now proven to provide an excellent standard of training,” he said.
“Around 40 former students have already joined, or are in the process of joining the RAF and many more are in apprenticeships with our other partner employers; Raytheon, Thales, AAR, Leonardo and Northrop Grumman.
“This programme should also provide an excellent pathway for students to progress to higher education opportunities at the International Aviation Academy which is planned to open at Syerston, about six miles from the town.
“This is the first in a series of announcements to demonstrate our intent to continue to invest in and develop Newark College to meet the needs of employers and create great careers for local people.”
Students at the A&DC have unique access to RAF and aerospace working environments and expertise, take part in residential adventure training and take on challenges set by the College’s industry partners.
Having recently undertaken accreditation with the Industrial Cadets at Gold level, this also provides students with a fantastic nationally recognised accreditation.
Air & Defence College Learning and Skills Lead Ross Tarnowski said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for young people. Our students get unique access to RAF and aerospace staff and facilities and everything we do is designed to prepare them for their future careers.
“Our employability rates are second to none and if you work hard, this programme will ensure you have an amazing, rewarding and lucrative career.”
Anyone interested in signing up can attend the Newark College Open Day on June Wednesday 26, from 4pm to 7pm.
