The mural – painted on the walls of the children’s play area of the waiting room – is designed to provide a stimulating environment for young patients at the surgery who may otherwise be restless when waiting for their appointments.
The UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students decided on an underwater theme for the mural which features a colourful array of sea creatures including turtles, dolphins and shoals of fish.
Materials needed for the project – including a range of paints – were donated by Wilkinson’s Stores and the surgery are thrilled at the finished mural.
Art and Designer Lecturer Karen Chesney said:
“The students involved in creating this mural have had their art skills and professionalism applauded and it has been a great community project.
“All of the students will either be going on to study at university or gain employment where they can put their art and design skills to use. This project has been great for their CV’s and portfolios.
“The surgery have called the mural ‘phenomenal’ which is testament to the hard work and talent of the students. They would like to provide the Art Department with worthwhile and useful gift to say thank you.
“This project has been part of the student’s wider study programme in addition to their coursework and I am incredibly proud of the result.”
