The bold banners outside Lincoln College’s Abbey Building represent the four key British values - democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and respect. Their bright and eye-catching appearance helps to reiterate and reflect these values to both students and staff on a daily basis.
The banners helped spark conversation across the College campus, particularly amongst Air and Defence Career College students, who took part in a British values essay writing competition during December last year.
Air and Defence student Luke Maclening said:
“I think British values are a good thing because it means that we have something to be proud of and something to aim towards as a citizen.”
His peer Jacob Osborne said: “All of the fundamental British values are essential in college but I think that democracy underpins the other values as they fall into place if there is a democracy in place.”
