To help provide the group with good industry understanding, they were given a short presentation in the theory and practices of scaffolding, followed by a hands-on workshop, tour of the site and an introduction into essential tools and equipment.
Simon Quincy, Carpentry and Joinery Lecturer at Lincoln College said “opportunities like this are invaluable to our students. Allowing them to see the wider construction industry away from the classroom opens a world of opportunity.
“It is not often that students gain scaffolding experience in such a useful and practical way and this is thanks to our partnership with Rilmac.”
Roger Woodcock, Design and Estimation Manager at Rilmac said “there is a skills shortage across the whole construction industry and if we can get students interested now, through Lincoln College and their apprenticeships, and our own in-house training they have an opportunity for a long, useful and worthwhile career.”
