Joinery students renovated the interior and exterior of the horse box and electrical learners installed power and lighting to create the innovative space, which is to be used by the Lincoln College Group at events and for promotional activities.
Stokes Coffee kindly sponsored the project by providing a coffee machine, and their coffee will be served from the van.
The renovation was part of a student enrichment programme at the College and allowed learners to demonstrate their skills at both a practical and commercial level. They were tasked with creating a contemporary, mobile coffee shop, with clever storage solutions and worktop space.
Oliver Gaworeci worked on the project as part of his electrical installations course. He said: “It gave me good experience of working in a real-life workplace, using what I had learned in the workshop to solve problems.”
His tutor, David Inger, commented that the experience had helped his students to appreciate that sometimes the fabric of what you are installing is not great, and they needed to get around this to complete the job.
Now ready, and looking impressive, the mobile coffee shop will be used to serve refreshments at outside events and between the three college campuses: Lincoln, Newark, and Gainsborough.
There's still time to apply for construction courses at Newark College, including carpentry and joinery. Find out more here.
