Engineering Students Meet Employers at Annual Engineering Fair

February 21 2017

Today’s event, which hosted a number of big industry names, gave students the opportunity to land a job or apprenticeship of their dreams.

The Engineering Fair takes place annually at Lincoln College and is a chance for local engineering firms to meet students and make them aware of any vacancies or opportunities that are available.

Businesses at the event included Siemens, British Sugar, the Royal Air Force and Fairfield Control Systems.

Steve Essam, Operations Manager (Process) at Minebea, said:

“Careers in engineering offer young people a chance to get into a growing industry in exciting jobs.

“There are lots of opportunities for progression both locally and globally. This event is a useful way to meet young enthusiastic people with the ambition to make it in the industry.”

Tom Hancock is an Apprentice Engineer at Siemens, he said:

“Studying an apprenticeship has given me the chance to get a good education whilst getting paid the same time. It is opening up doors for the future and the course is really enjoyable, I like getting involved in real jobs and solving problems that I know will make a difference.”

Lincoln College Group Business Development Manager Rachel May said:

“This is a great opportunity for local engineering firms to access our talent-pool of students and set them on track to a really rewarding career.

“Any engineering firms or firms from other sectors who missed the opportunity to exhibit today will get another opportunity during apprenticeship week. We’ll be holding an apprenticeship recruitment fair on Thursday March 9, so get in touch if you’d like a free stand.

“We’re also hosting an Apprenticeship Levy Health Check event on Monday March 6. This joint event with Nat West Bank and Streets Chartered Accountants will have training experts and employment law specialists on hand to give firms with a wage bill over £3m bespoke consultancy.”
