English language training support for businesses

November 22 2018

Lincoln College has secured funding from the Midlands Engine to deliver English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) courses in county businesses.

This will enable local firms to break down language barriers to help increase inclusion, integration and productivity.

And now the College wants businesses that have an English training need to get in touch to take advantage of this fully funded opportunity.

Lincoln College Director of Commercial and Partnerships Mark Taylor said: “This is fantastic news for businesses across Greater Lincolnshire, many of whom employ significant numbers of people who have English as their second language.

“The County has many employees who have a basic level of English that means they can complete their jobs effectively, but are unable to progress due to their language limitations.

“This kind of training enables employers to get the most out of their staff, empowering them to reach their full potential. It is also a way for employers to give something back as the skills gained will clearly help staff in their personal lives too.

“We intend to create tailored courses that cover the technical and cultural language specific to each business we work with, so employers optimise the opportunity.

“We have recently completed a similar training programme with more 100 staff at Team KnowHow at Newark and the management team said it was really valuable to the business.”

Any organisation that wants to enquire about ESOL training for their staff can contact Lincoln College Head of Community & Commercial, Sean Knight.
