Learners from Lincoln College’s GCSE English and Performing Arts courses, as well as guests from Lincoln UTC and Lincoln Christ's Hospital School were invited to hear the writer talk about his vast career in the industry.
The Lincoln Book Festival connects audiences of all ages and interests and is taking place from Monday 23rd September until Saturday 28th September across the City.
Melvin has won both the Carnegie Medal and The Guardian’s Children Fiction Prize for his novel ‘Junk’ (1996) and has gone on to publish over 20 books since his debut, The Cry of the Wolf, almost 30 years ago.
His books cover a diverse range of real-world topics, from drug addiction to dementia, with his more recent work moving towards fantasy including his latest novel, The Lost Witch (2018).
Melvin offered advice and guidance to students, he said: “You can be anything, you can do everything, you just have to believe it.”
Level 3 Performing Arts student Katie Small said: “I found it really inspiring and interesting.
“I enjoy writing so this has really helped give me an insight into how I might build a career from it, plus ways I can introduce it into my studying.”
