Gainsborough College Students Commissioned by Costa Coffee

December 16 2016

Students asked to restore a cart that will be used in Marshall’s Yard to sell food and drink to shoppers.

Gainsborough College were contacted by Costa who wanted to offer some valuable experience to students with the restoration project.

Students from a range of courses, including Painting and Decorating, Carpentry and Joinery, and Automotive Engineering, have been involved in the project which has seen them restore a damaged cart. The cart will be used by Costa Coffee to sell food and drinks to shoppers in Gainsborough’s Marshall’s Yard.

Automotive Lecturer Kev Gibbon said:

“This has been an amazing opportunity that has seen students gain work experience as well as build their enterprise skills.

“They have worked well together and I am proud to see them working with the community to bring something special to the town.

“The cart features the College logo which will be proudly displayed to shoppers visiting Marshall’s Yard.”

Andrea Turner, Regional Manager for Costa Coffee, said:

“Working with Kev and the Team at Gainsborough College has been wonderful, the students have shown real dedication and hard work, stripping the cart back and rebuilding it to its former glory.

“We have used local suppliers for all materials, from paint to the canvas cover for the roof which was made by Eve Hearn, a local seamstress who used to work at the college.

“Building community relationships within the town are so important, and I feel we have a really strong link now between ourselves and the college.

“The cart will be used to support the store during special event days organised by Marshall's yard, who have been very patiently waiting for the return of the cart.

“We look forward to welcoming our customers to Marshall's yard to see the cart in place.”
