Chris York, who studied HNC and HND in Civil Engineering at Lincoln College and graduated in 2015, is now a Geomatics and RC Specialist at Leica Geosystems. With close to 200 years of pioneering solutions to measure the world, Leica Geosystems solutions help capture, analyse and present spatial information.
Chris visited the College in May to share with current Level 3 and degree-level Civil Engineering and Construction students his career journey and allow the students to try out the latest High-Tech industry equipment.
Chris said: “It was a pleasure to demonstrate some of the latest technologies Leica Geosystems has to offer to the next generation of engineers and surveyors, from the recently released AP20 to the BLK2GO - illustrating how data capture can be made efficiently but also consistently with no longer needing to level the pole.
“The students got to grips with the captivate software in no time and the interaction was brilliant and were asking some great questions.
“We really hope the students enjoyed the day and have taken something useful from it - their participation was brilliant.”
Ian Lester, Construction, Technical & Professional Lecturer at Lincoln College, added: “Many thanks to Chris and Harry from Leica for spending time with our Level 3 and HNC Civil Engineering/Construction students.
“The technology is changing the traditional role of the site engineer and it was great to see it demonstrated in such a professional manner.
“The equipment they bought with them was cutting edge and included a total station/GPS and scanners, which together retail at approx. £150,000.
“The students gained a lot from the day, and it was especially rewarding as Chris was a Lincoln College student himself. A massive thank you to Leica for making this possible.”
