Electric Vehicle (EV) or Hydrogen powered vehicles? The discussion yesterday underpinned relevant industry questions about emerging technologies. The Automotive Department at Lincoln College strives to raise awareness of technologies being used in motor vehicles.

Peter Jackson, Learning and Skills Lead for Automotive Engineering, said: “We have been on a journey working with local and national Automotive Industry employers and workforces since 2016. To raise awareness of vehicle systems such as; Electric/Hybrid, Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) and the continued management of petrol and diesel fuel systems.

“Although Covid slowed us down, we have continuously facilitated free-to-attend technical update events regularly.

“This event looks at the technology being adopted by the Industry in response to the two key themes of Climate Control and Road Safety.”

In attendance, automotive experts; Andy Crook, Tom Denton and Hayley Pells – discussed the ever-evolving automotive technologies and the future of the Automotive industry.

As an institution delivering courses in a fast-evolving sector, our Automotive study programmes adapt to the latest technology and techniques - we use and recommend Tom Denton and Hayley Pells’ ATT books for our students.

Tom Denton, Automotive Author, said, “My books have always adapted to changes in technology and changes in qualifications.

“In the latest Automobile Mechanical and Electrical Systems book (third edition), there is now more on emerging technologies such as EV and ADAS. This will increase as the car parc changes due to regulations or any other influence on the technology.

Hayley Pells, Policy Manager at the Institute of the Motor Industry, said: “Work with OZEV and the Transport Committee provides insight on the direction of future legislation which helps us prepare the workforce of the future.”

Andy Crook, Research Engineer at Cardiff University, said: “The automotive sector is an exciting place to be right now. The future of mobility still has yet to be decided.

“The key driver for change is sustainability, and as technicians and engineers, we must embrace this challenge. The next generation of automotive professionals will be designing, building and repairing very different vehicles to the ones in use today.

Our Level 1 and 2 Automotive students found the discussion thought-provoking and inspired to be part of an expansive industry with great scope for careers.
