Students and staff from the eight Lincolnshire IoT partners gathered at the Lincoln College facility to celebrate the launch-year of the high-tech, higher skills institutes.

Approximately 150 students from Lincoln College, the University of Lincoln, Boston College, Grantham College, Bishop Burton (Riseholme College), Lincoln UTC, DN Colleges Group (North Lindsey College) and The Tec partnership (Grimsby) took part.

This was the first time students from the IoT partner institutes had all been in one place – to learn about each other's specialisms and the technology-driven teaching and learning being delivered at each IoT site. The Lincolnshire IoT is slightly unusual in being a large partnership with sites spanning the region rather than being a single organisation based at one site.

Lincoln College Group CEO and Principal Mark Locking opened the event.

“We’re thrilled to welcome IoT students from the University of Lincoln and all of our partner colleges across Lincolnshire,” he said.

“The IoT family represents a huge investment in higher skills related to technology across the region and it’s fabulous to see so many young people benefitting from amazing learning environments – working on the very latest technology.”

Professor Libby John of the University of Lincoln, added: “Our vision is to provide employers in the region with people who have the skills they need to succeed - now and in the future.

“Our IoT is providing high quality applied learning in the use of technology in agriculture, web and app development, sustainable energy, electric vehicles, cyber security, and robotics.

“It was great to see the students from each partner meeting for the first time today to learn about the amazing teaching and learning taking place at each of the IoT sites.”
