Lincoln College apprentice takes on Hybrid Vehicle Training

February 08 2018

PK Automotive Apprentice is progressing her career working on the industries latest technologies.

Lois Lane started as a full time Level 1 Automotive learner at Lincoln College and showed promise from the start. It was arranged for Lois to have a work based trial at PK Automotive, which progressed into an apprenticeship, where she continued to achieve to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in 2017.

Through her work with PK Automotive, Lois has expanded her skills to repairing and maintaining new technologies in alternative fuel vehicles, an industry which is seeing rapid changes resulting in the need for mechanics to diversify.

Lois is looking ahead and about to start her next stage of training enabling her to work on hybrid vehicles.

Lois said “I have completed the NVQ L3 Automotive Technician qualification and the Bosch course in electrics and have worked on hybrids, but this course will develop my career further.

“The increasing number of electric and hybrid vehicles will lead to an increasing demand for technicians who can maintain and repair them.”

Paul Killingworth, owner of PK Automotive Solutions says, “Lois will be the third member of staff who has done the hybrid course. It is essential that people are properly trained because electric and hybrid vehicles can deliver a fatal shock.

“We are seeing an increasing demand for technicians with these skills, which can boost a technicians’ career prospects and income. Other garages are sending work to us because we now have these skills.”

Peter Jackson, Learning and Skills Lead for Automotive Engineering at Lincoln College said “We are hugely proud of Lois and her achievements and how she is flying the flag for women in the automotive trade.”

If you are interested in a career in Automotive Engineering we have the course to suit.
