Lincoln College delivers IMI Automotive Trade Event Blog

January 19 2018

Lincoln College alongside the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) held an evening event with more than 70 attendees from the automotive trade across Greater Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, including employers and apprentices.

With the automotive trade experiencing a steep rise in technology, future changes to MOT testing standards and technician licensing it is essential the sector keeps moving forward and that businesses are able to access this expert advice and continuous development locally.

IMI members heard from internationally recognised manufacturers Denso, demonstrating new technology in engine sensors and injection systems, and Schaeffler, showcasing their electrical and E-mobility components.

Attendees were invited to a practical workshop within the College’s apprenticeship facility with an opportunity to speak to AG Block – with their Toyota hybrid training rig, Hella – with their diagnostic and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibration equipment, Halfords and IMI trade representatives.

Peter Jackson, Learning & Skills Lead for Automotive Engineering at Lincoln College said “The Automotive Trade is going through the fastest technology increase we have ever seen. It is so important that members of the trade are able to maintain a good level of understanding and knowledge of new innovation, diagnostics and the fitting of very technically advance components.”

“Our partnership with the IMI has allowed us to facilitate this event which included apprentices and full time learners as well as professional members from the garage and vehicle component manufacturing trades.”

“We have another event on Wednesday 2 May, 2018, which we hope will run to the same success.”
