The Learning and Development Programme will train all of the company’s full-time drivers to deliver enhanced levels of customer service.
Jack Davies, Director at VisionDrive, said: “We have spoken to a lot of operators within our sector and found that expectations are well ahead of the standards previously set out by sole traders.
“To meet this head on, we’ve come up with a programme that not only addresses skills gaps, but also takes the time to find out what drivers want to become, fuelling their individual ambitions.”
The course, which lasts a year, will be based at Lincoln College’s Ravendale campus and will combine driver training with shadowing of existing staff on the road.
At the foundation level, the qualification will be worth the equivalent of a City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ. In addition to the qualification, specific elements like customer care and how to operate vehicles on clients' premises will also be taught.
Mr Davies added: “We’re now going to be recruiting drivers in groups – for example, in January we are taking on three individuals who will be the first new recruits to start the scheme. It will not only mean new starters feel supported, but will also mean they start to think in development terms too.”
Lincoln College Key Account Manager David Oliver said: “We’re really excited to be starting this programme with VisionDrive.
“Ian and Jack are very ambitious and to go above and beyond the industry standards here is admirable. We’ll be co-ordinating the course content with them and this will no doubt mean they can recruit equally ambitious people.
“This is a great example of our mission to be employer-led, listening to the specific needs of employers and responding with blended, flexible training programmes to meet them.”
