Lincoln College provides Tesco with mental health awareness training

July 23 2019

The College has developed and adapted a blended learning version of their fully-funded online Level 2 Mental Health Awareness course to suit employees across several local Tesco stores.

The relationship was initially formed by Lincoln College when they approached Tesco with the idea as a way to provide and upskill support staff and managers with their awareness of mental health.

Mental health is fast-becoming a key focus across many businesses with a focus on recognising whether a colleague may need extra support.

The blended learning version (online, independent and face-to-face teaching based) was developed so that it could be taught in a classroom environment to larger groups at a time.

Today’s presentation was for the third cohort of learners from the course with over 40 staff currently at different stages in the learning process.

Natalie Ebbatson from People Partner in Lincoln worked alongside the College to organise and recruit colleagues interested in the course and has supported them along the way. She said: “It's been a fantastic local collaboration between Tesco and Lincoln College that's provided a great opportunity for colleagues and managers to gain important skills and a qualification to better identify and support their colleagues - who may be suffering from mental health issues.”

Peter Garrett Grocery Manager at Tesco said: “The course was great fun and really useful. It's opened my eyes to different mental health conditions so I can recognize potential health problems in staff and help support them.”

Online Learning Co-ordinator at Lincoln College Tom Dickinson said: “We’re really pleased to support Tesco with the continuing development of staff in such an important area with recognising Mental Health Awareness.”
