Lincoln College students attend the English Speaking Union Dinner

November 10 2017

Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland attended the dinner with teaching staff and Four A-Level students, who were invited as guests of honour after submitting essays on British values. Here Gary shares his thoughts on the evening…

I had the great pleasure of spending this evening at the annual English Speaking Union dinner at Bishop Grosseteste University, accompanied by curriculum staff members Stefan Fusenich and Robin Sisson, along with four of our A Level students.

A highlight of the evening was listening to our speaker, Lord Hennessy, who is a massively important national influencer and icon.

The particular highlight was listening to our students’ experience and how one of them had not had aspirations to go to University but had been inspired by Robin and was hopefully heading to Edinburgh University; she would the first person in her family ever to go to University and was currently working four jobs, while studying, to save the money to go. Another student is hopefully heading to Cambridge University and hopes to follow Robin’s inspiration and become a History teacher. Well done Robin!

The students had won their place at the event by submitting an essay on British Values.

The evening was hosted by Sir Michael Graydon who will be visiting us on Friday 15 December to deliver a lecture on British Values.
