Head of English, Education and Enterprise at the Riyadh Applied Engineering College, Garry Sharkey, delivered the lesson, titled The Internet of Things, to Lincoln College students this morning.
Dr Sharkey was teaching via the 84-inch Microsoft Surface Hub in the Digital Academy and all students were working on the latest Surface Pros using One Note to join in with the interactive session.
Dr Sharkey said this was a really exciting teaching and learning experience: “We are in the very early stages of developing this teaching method, but it’s great to think we are able to deliver lessons across the globe and share expertise between Lincoln and Riyadh.”
Lincoln College student Daniel Thompson said: “It was a really engaging and interactive lesson and I can’t wait for the next one.”
Lincoln College Managing Director for Education and Training, Mark Locking said: “One of the real benefits of being an international college group is that we have the ability to share resources and expertise across continents.
“Over in Riyadh we have lots of staff with PHDs teaching English and engineering courses at degree level and now, thanks to the investment we have made with our partners at Microsoft, we are able to bring them into the classroom in the UK.
“At the moment we are running trials with English lessons, but hope to extend this to engineering, business and computer science specialisms in the near future.”
