National Apprenticeship Week: Lincoln College Group’s range of Apprenticeship programmes

February 10 2021

This week is National Apprenticeship Week and we’re taking a closer look at our apprenticeships, from those training, through to the employers working with us.

The Lincoln College Group offers a diverse range of more than 60 apprenticeship programmes to suit all sectors, job roles and experience.

Some involve a day's training every week, but others are delivered in the work place, programmes can be tailor delivered to suit your business, for example over a block or several weeks in one go.

Apprentices will either be trained at college or in your workplace dependent on the programme and access to equipment and resources. Functional skills support is always offered to improve English, Maths and ICT ability if required.

Donna Moorhouse, Head of Sales and Recruitment, at Lincoln College, says Apprenticeships offer so much to both learners and employers.

“Apprenticeships help you to keep your business relevant, innovate and grow. Research shows that firms employing apprentices will benefit from increased long-term productivity.

“A typical apprentice delivers productivity gains of over £10,000 per annum. Even before an apprentice is fully qualified, many businesses will see the economic benefits of offering apprenticeships.”

Figures show that while training, each apprentice in England is estimated to deliver an average positive net gain of £1,670 per annum to their employers. (Economic impact 2015 UKGOV commissioned study).

“The past 12 months have been really difficult for everyone and offering training to your colleagues allows you to say thank you for their loyalty and determination in a tangible and cost-effective way,” said Donna.

Apprenticeships are not just for young new recruits – you can train any of your existing staff from a level two qualification up to the equivalent of degree or masters level and if you’re a smaller business, apprenticeships are a cost-effective way of increasing capacity and capability, or upskilling your staff to the next level.

“If you’re an apprenticeship levy payer you are paying for this training whether you use it or not, so why not use your digital credits and allow us to support your workforce planning and succession strategy?”

And for learners, apprenticeships offer a way to earn while learning new skills.

“Apprenticeships give a practical insight into a working career whilst gaining qualifications and earning a wage,” said Donna. “They’re a fantastic way for learners to gain new qualifications and fulfil their aspirations in the workplace.”

By the end of an apprenticeship, you'll have the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career or to progress to the next level. You may choose to continue training at Lincoln College and gain further qualifications and hopefully, the skills and experience gained will help you progress within your organisation.

“We listen to the individual needs of employers and design our curriculum with you in mind, taking in to account local skills gaps and shortages,” says Donna.
