Level 3 Art and Design Students used their spare time to plan what they would produce and how, they then contacted local charity Newark Emmaus Trust who provide young homeless people with housing, care and support in the town.
The students gained valuable business experience as they raised money through donations to pay for the stall and materials, they then sold their creations at the Christmas Fair raising over £100 for the charity.
Student Darren Yemm said:
“The work experience has built my confidence; planning and executing a project from start to finish was great and it was good to see people enjoying our products.”
Student Ben Rostance also manned the stall at the Christmas Fair, he said:
“Our aim was to support a local charity by raising funds and awareness, we had lots of fun in the process and the market stall was a great success.”
Course Lecturer Alison Caldwell said:
“I am proud that this group of students were so self-motivated; not only have they completed their work experience independently but they have also used it as an opportunity to benefit a local charity which one of their peers benefits from.”
