Newark College exhibit at first Expo East event

April 30 2018

Newark College offered expert advice on apprenticeships and technical training to regional businesses at the event this week.

The College ran the Apprenticeship Zone at the Expo, promoting the benefits of apprenticeship training to upskill existing staff and train new recruits.

Staff were joined by the College’s strategic partner, Team KnowHow, part of Dixons Carphone Group, which trains hundreds of its apprentices with Newark College.

Our higher education experts were also present, introducing firms to the new, ‘Degree while you Work’ programme for Business and Management, which allows people to study for a BA at the weekends – a great opportunity to upskill or change direction without risking income.

Gary Headland, Chief Executive of Lincoln College Group took part in a panel session, alongside representatives from Streets Accountants, City of Lincoln Council and the Department for International Trade (DIT).

The discussion entitled Barriers to Business Beyond Borders focused on doing business internationally, touching on assessing risk, financial viability, authenticity and having a clear strategy.

Mr Headland said “I was delighted to participate in the panel to share our experience of operating across borders both in the UK and internationally in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and China.

“DIT evidence shows that organisations that export are more innovative, productive and resilient. If we can, you can.

“Feel free to get in touch with me via LinkedIn if I can help in any way in my capacity as a Midlands Engine Export Champion.”

The business community were later invited to a seminar led by Richard Yardy, Employee Engagement Manager at risual and Lincoln College’s digital academy expert, on the significance of empowering education through technology.
