The College were among 27 local organisations competing in Newark’s Dragon Boat Race, raising money for Beaumond House and the Children’s Bereavement Centre.
Dragon boat racing is fast becoming one of the most popular water activities in Britain and hundreds gathered to support the teams, as they raced in three heats throughout the day. The six fastest sides were then selected for the semi-finals.
Despite not making it through to the final stages, Team Newark College enjoyed the experience. Progression Coach, Barry McGann, who was part of the crew said: “It really was a great team performance!
“Our first race didn't go according to plan. To then get back on the water for our second race and smash 10 seconds off our first time was amazing. It gave everyone a massive boost going in to our final race which was neck and neck all the way.
“We loved every minute and are so proud of what we have achieved, while representing Newark College. It was for a great cause and we did it with huge smiles on our faces!”
