Nominated for National Diversity Awards 2020

April 23 2020

Lincoln College Group is determined to ensure people in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and in its colleges abroad are not disadvantaged by Coronavirus-related social distancing.

Lincoln, Newark and Gainsborough colleges are continuing to teach and train through the Coronavirus lockdown across further education, apprenticeships and higher education.

Lincoln College student Sian Hutchings has been recognised by organisers of a prestigious awards programme for her work within the local community.

Sian hopes to make it through to the finals of the National Diversity Awards, after organisers spotted the work she does through following her on social media.

It was Sian’s community work and talks on the subject of autism and ADHD, that got her noticed and she was asked to put herself forward – and she couldn’t be more pleased.

“The National Diversity Awards have been following me on social media and they were very impressed with the work I do as they approached me to nominate myself for the Positive Role Model for Disability and this is something I have not done before previously,” said Sian.

“I’m a public speaker on autism and ADHD. I have an amazing and inspiring insight into ASD and ADHD with my lived experiences.

“I have spoken to parents, carers, professionals, at various events across the UK, such as The Autism Show in London, school staff inset days and student school assemblies. I’ve also delivered college staff training and I have delivered talks to staff and students on World Autism Awareness Week each year.”

Sian says she has met with ASD support groups around the country and also speaks with parents and carers of autistic children, young people and adults.

Shortlisted nominees will be announced in June and will be invited to attend The National Diversity Awards 2020 at the Anglican Cathedral, Liverpool, on September 25. Winners will be announced on the night of the ceremony.

You can vote for Sian and find out more about her work by visiting her nomination page on the National Diversity Awards 2020 page here  https://nationaldiversityawards.co.uk/nominate/27242/
