A Lincoln College Level 3 Policing College student, Josh Jones, has been attested as a Special Constable with Lincolnshire Police after completing his basic training.
Josh Jones said: “Becoming part of Lincolnshire Police Special Constabulary means a great deal to me as I will be able to apply what I have learnt on the Level 3 course.
“The course has offered me the hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to put theory into practice. For example, Unit 18 - Criminal Investigation gave us the opportunity to prepare case files, interview suspects and search a premises, all with the assistance of field-experienced tutors.
“The enrichment activities involved in this course are really beneficial for anyone looking for a career within the service but not quite sure which route to take. We had a range of guest speakers coming in such as prison officers, CSI and CID detectives, as well as the Police and Crime Commissioner sharing with us exactly what he does to support the police service.
“Along with the guest speakers, we also had the opportunity to go off campus with this course and involve ourselves with the police's public order training - where we could see how the police deal with public order situations such as football matches and massive public order disturbances. We also had the opportunity to visit the Lincolnshire Police HQ to interact with the dog handlers and firearms officers.
“The tutors themselves have been wonderful throughout the academic years and my process in becoming a Special Constable. They are really supportive and will try their utmost best to ensure you receive the grades you deserve. Without this course and the tutors' assistance, I would have struggled achieving my dream of becoming a police officer and progressing my career to become an armed response officer.”
Brian Williams, Learning and Skills Lead in Policing at Lincoln College, added: “As Lead for the Policing College, I encourage our students to volunteer for the role of Special Constable alongside their studies. This provides them with practical policing experience to supplement their academic studies and more importantly helps them to decide whether a career as a police officer is for them.
“During this academic year, across our Level 3 and Degree provision, we now have seven attested Special Constables with Lincolnshire Police. We also have another three students who are awaiting their training courses in Lincolnshire and one student in Humberside.
“Josh is coming to the end of his two-year Level 3 qualification and has been a very astute student, focused on achieving his dream of becoming a police officer. He has taken full advantage of the academic programme and the extra-curricular activities that we offer, from enrichment activities with Lincolnshire Police to being an active member of the stop and search scrutiny group.
“I wish Josh well with his journey after college and as well as developing his knowledge and skills as a Special Constable, he intends to apply for a full-time role soon.”
