College learners demonstrated the coaching skills they have developed during their studies this year to provide a day of fun for the year 6 children that took part.
Other responsibilities included sourcing a venue, deciding on the sport to be played, marketing and sending invitations, all to form part of the ‘Event Organisation’ module for the course.
“A lot of time and effort went into planning the tournament, which I’m really proud of,” said student Hannah Broomfield, who was the event manager.
“I’m pleased to have developed my organisational skills, which will be useful in the future for a dancing career,” she said.
Fellow student Bryce Griffin said: “I really enjoyed my job as speaker for the day. My confidence has grown during the course, which will help me in my goal to become a sports coach or a sports teacher.”
Sport lecturer Stephanie Evans said: “The students stepped up to the challenge and fulfilled their roles in an enthusiastic manner. I am immensely proud of their hard work and dedication into making sure the whole experience was a success.”
Feedback from the tournament was positive, with Teacher Matt Terry from Mount C of E Primary and Nursery School commenting: ‘It’s been a great event enjoyed by all staff and students. Newark College students were both professional and well mannered.”
