The College helped the Children’s Bereavement Centre in a range of tasks with everyone pitching in, from joinery students installing bespoke storage, to construction learners sorting toys donated over Christmas and the art department producing emotive artwork for the walls.
Meanwhile students had fun playing Cupid for the week, selling and delivering roses and chocolates for Valentine’s Day, raising over £94 for the charity. Contributions were also made to a College ‘Glitter Bank’ to help brighten a child’s Valentine weekend with arts and crafts.
Donations were given to representatives from the Children’s Bereavement Centre on Thursday 13th February, when they arrived to personally thank students for their efforts and commitment.
Olivia Bradford, Volunteer Coordinator at the charity said: “We are lucky enough to have a great relationship with Newark College. When I heard that Student Volunteer Week was coming up, I thought it was an opportunity not to be missed. It’s brilliant that both the College and the Children’s Bereavement Centre can gain from a shared experience.
“I am hopeful that by meeting and working alongside the students they will gain insight into and a passion for the charity sector and the many ways it can benefit them.”
Special thanks go to Morrisons Newark who donated roses and Hallmark Newark who provided chocolates to aid the fundraising.
