Your Dreams Start Here – Lincoln College Reveals its Knights’ Trail Sculpture

March 29 2017

Lincoln College is proud to unveil Night Time – its 2017 Knights’ Trail sculpture.

Night Time, created by Lincoln Children’s book author, Mark Chambers, had his first outing at the Knights’ Trail media launch at the Showroom in Lincoln last night.

The striking design, which depicts children with their parents gazing at the night sky and pondering their future, is one of the most striking designs among the 36 sculptures that will be on display this summer.

The Knight, which was created with florescent paint to illuminate the constellations it depicts, will sit at the main entrance to the College in Monks Road, from May 20.

In the meantime, the college marketing team are planning to kidnap Night Time and take him on a city tour – so if you’d like us to visit your school, nursery or business, just let us know.

Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland said he loved the design and was excited to be part of the Knights’ Trail.

He said: I’m so pleased with our Knight and I’m really looking forward to the reaction of the public.

“It's extremely important to the Group that we play our part in the culture and fun of our great and vibrant City.”

The Trail celebrates the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln and the sealing of the Charter of the Forest.

The sculptures will be in place around the city till September 3. They will then be auctioned off to raise money for homeless charity, the Nomad Trust.

Mark Chambers is an illustrator and author of children's picture books and young fiction. Mr Chambers was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2013 with Noisy Bottoms and Pigeon Poo, written by Elizabeth Baguley and won the Sheffield Children's Picture Book Prize in the same year.

He said: “I’m really pleased with the way Night Time has turned out. A huge amount of work went into it and I spent many hours in my garage experimenting with florescent paint I’d bought in from Norway to achieve the night time glow that I hope the sculpture will be remembered for.

“I’m a digital artist by trade so returning to working with paint was a really rewarding experience for me. I thought I might only do something like this once so I poured my heart and soul into it.

“I’m delighted Lincoln College picked my Knight. It’s all about family and looking to the skies and pondering the future, which fits with what the College is all about.”
