Association of Colleges #LoveOurColleges Week
Day 1 Celebration of construction
Hundreds of students and employers took part in a week-long celebration of the construction industry last week.
And today it culminated with competition winning students being presented with their prizes by Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland.
Lincoln College’s Construction Week saw hundreds of brickwork, painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery and plumbing students take part in competitions, industry challenges and exciting sessions with their future employers.
The aim of the week was to inspire construction students to succeed in their courses and to introduce them to employers who might take them on.
Lincoln College Head of Construction Paul Gregory said: “This has been a huge success and is a great lead in to an announcement about the expansion of our construction department, which we’ll be making soon.
“We have fantastic relationships with local employers and I want to thank them for their support this week.
“I really felt like our students were excited and inspired by the competitions, talks from employers and the sessions we did on teaching them how to set up and run their own businesses when they leave college.”
Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland said: “Our education and training for the construction industry is of strategic importance to us and we will be announcing exciting expansion plans in the coming weeks.
“I’d like to add a huge thank you to the employers for their continued support in helping us to achieve our mission of being employer-led, building a highly skilled and productive local workforce.”
Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery student Ben Jones said: “I’ve really enjoyed the activities this week – I feel like I’ve learnt some good practical skills that will help me succeed in my future career.
“It’s also given me the chance to meet employers and explore possible job opportunities and apprenticeships for my next steps.”
