Many of the 100 plus engineering students currently studying at Lincoln College were able to ask questions directly to the company representatives, discuss productivity and vacancy opportunities, and see demonstrations from experts.
Steve Jobson of Siemens said that many of their apprentices come from Lincoln College each year. Steve continued “there are many benefits in Siemens taking part in events like this; it is our chance to speak with young people on a one-to-one basis to discuss what we can offer and show our passion for engineering as a business.
“In many cases, apprenticeships are not black and white, there are different progression routes and some opportunities for national schemes to be taken which we can point the right person in that direction.”
Anne Marie Lister from Eminox said “we have many apprentices from Lincoln College working with us and are looking to recruit more. We believe that working for an employer on top of their classroom experiences is an invaluable part of their training.
“For Eminox, it is also a way of bringing new skills and ideas in the business.”
James Newall, Group Director for Marketing and Communications at Lincoln College said “these events are really successful and play a key role in marrying up the right student to the right business.
“These experiences help students with their career vision and aspiration, and provides a direct line of communication to businesses and potentially their future employers.”
Lincoln College are hosting a mixed-sector careers event on 6 March, 2018 as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
