Competitors were set an ambitious four-hour task focusing on precision, preparation, joinery skill and time planning.
Alongside students from our Lincoln, Gainsborough and Newark colleges, were competitors from North Lindsey, Boston, Doncaster, Sheffield and Grantham institutes.
The winners were announced as follows;
First – Joshua Mather, Lincoln College
Second – Jordan Crawshaw, Lincoln College
Third – Tom Crosby, Grantham College
Ernie Leech Prize – Zoe Elderfield, Lincoln College
Judges observed the group throughout looking for overall finish and quality, combined with care of tools, general technique and ability.
The Ernie Leech prize was given to Zoe for her care on the workbench, best use of her tools and health and safety.
Mark Locking, Managing Director of Education & Training at Lincoln College presented the certificates and prizes to the competitors. Mark said: “It has been an excellent competition giving students the opportunity to compete and show off their skills.
“The ethos of the completion fits perfectly with our drive to be truly employer-led developing a highly skilled and productive local workforce.
“The students I spoke to clearly had a great time and enjoyed the pressure of competition.
“I would like to thank the Institute of Carpenters for running the competition and Graham Stanney, Carpentry & Joinery Instructor and his team for the great work done to host the contest at Lincoln College”.
David Winson from the Institute of Carpenters said: “I think overall it has been a good competition, although not many competitors managed to finish in the allocated time, there was some good examples of craftsmanship.
“Joshua, for the second consecutive year, showed a good quality finish to the right specification and is a well-deserved winner.”
Although Zoe was keen to invest her winnings in carpentry tools, the other winners were more interested in celebrating with their prize money.
Lincoln College hosted the annual carpentry competition in partnership with the Institute of Carpenters with next year’s competition being held in May at North Lindsey College.
