A fantastic result for our level 3 Sports, Coaching and PE student, Jacobean Edwards (Beanie). After bagging a bronze medal at the Nihon Dutch Open late last year representing Team GB in combined VI (Visually Impaired) and Adaptive Judoka competition - winning the title and defeating his opponent with the Ō goshi technique - a major hip throw.
Beanie is a visually impaired student - his enthusiasm has seen him kickstart a successful sporting career, but his disability does not hold him back. Judo has given him the confidence to participate in high-calibre competitions and honourably compete at a national level for Team GB in Holland.
The inclusive competition presents opportunities for minority groups to celebrate their talent, giving them confidence and grow their potential. As an institution, we are delighted to offer facilities and high-quality training to support our students in pursuing such competitions.
Andrew Mcewan, Sports Lecturer at Lincoln College, said: “Beanie is an enthusiastic and engaged learner who enjoys contributing to lessons and is motivated to learn. He shows a willingness to develop, demonstrating excellent maturity and independent study skills.
Since last year, Jacobean has competed in further competitions - he has fearlessly embraced any presented opportunities and is thriving in his field.
