The experts shared their wisdom with level 2 electrical students and level 3 apprentices from Newark and Lincoln College - including plenty of tips for getting ahead in the industry and standing out from other candidates.
David Inger, Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at Newark College said: “It’s been great to have Gary Hayers here to share some outside perspective to students hoping to join the industry. He’s given the learners some practical and realistic advice on how they can put themselves above the competition to advance their careers.
“We were also delighted to have technical expert, Shahid Khan from ECA on hand to put a face to the wiring regulations.”
Jack Matthews was one of the level 3 electrical technical apprentices who attended. ‘It’s been a really interesting day and I've learned a lot,” he said. “It’s been great to meet Gary as I’ve watched quite a few of his YouTube videos,”
Gary is the editor at eFIXX and runs popular electrical tutorials through his GSH Electrical YouTube Channel. He commented:
“The staff and facilities completely underline the award that was given to Newark College and the Lincoln College Group electrical team by eFIXX for being College of the Year.
“The Newark department clearly has incredibly motivated staff and an unbelievable high level of students across their full-time and apprentice provision, who were fully engaged and asked amazing questions. They should be immensely proud of the knowledge acquired, particularly the level 3 apprentices who are only around 6 months away from being qualified. They will be a credit to the electrical industry after coming through the process at Newark College, part of the Lincoln College Group.”
The Lincoln College Group won College of the Year in the eFIXX Awards 2022 earlier this year with judges highlighting the fact the Electrical Installations Department has produced ‘outstanding learning resources both paper-based and in the form of training rigs that take learners beyond the syllabus.’
During the day eFIXX donated specialist equipment and teaching aids to the College thanks to the support of their channel partners. Learn about them here.
