The Hallé has a reputation for artistic excellence and attracts some of the finest musicians from around the world. The orchestra regularly perform at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, as well as at 40 concerts annually around Britain including at the Lincoln Cathedral.
This year The Hallé in Lincoln was conducted by Jonathon Heyward and Lincoln Cathedral’s Organist Laureate, Dr Colin Walsh played the famous Father Willis Organ.
As sponsors of the event, the Lincoln College Group put on a soirée before the evening’s performance, where students displayed the musical instruments they have made to 150 VIP guests including local councillors, members of the clergy and music enthusiasts. Canapés were provided by learners on catering courses at the Lincoln campus and students were given tickets to enjoy the concert afterwards.
Josanna Fielder, who was there showing the violin she has made, said: “People come from all over the world to learn instrument making at Newark College, I study with students from Canada, Sweden, Germany and even Australia.
“Often people locally don’t realise that these skills are being taught on their doorstep, so it’s great to be able to show off what we do and promote our courses at events like this.”
Woodwind student Kit Benham said: “I’m usually working in my workshop so it’s good to be here this evening meeting people interested in music and showing them that there is more to being a musician than playing.”
