Gary Headland DL, CEO of the Lincoln College Group and President of the Royal British Legion for Lincolnshire, planted the tree, a Prunus Royal Burgundy, at Lincoln College and was joined by two of the Policing College students, Nykol Barbu and Filip Jezewski, currently studying at Lincoln College.
Lincoln College joins individuals, groups and organisations across the UK who are being encouraged to plant a tree and play their part in enhancing the environment and creating a legacy in honour of the Queen’s leadership of the nation.
As well as calling on people to plant new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.
Lincoln College Group CEO Gary Headland said: “The Queen’s Green Canopy is a fantastic initiative that not only commemorates Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee but also encourages everyone to help enhance our environment by planting a tree.
“This planting also provided a terrific opportunity to stimulate a discussion on the important topics of sustainability and British Values with our students.”
