World Electrical Vehicle Day: Accelerating towards a renewable generation.

September 29 2022

The Electrical Vehicle (EV) pathways at the Lincoln College Group are pioneering to reduce the skill gap in the industry. Electric Avenue is an adapted electric/hybrid vehicle workshop that the college has developed to deliver high-quality IMI electric/hybrid vehicle training courses.

The Lincoln College Group are conscious of giving students opportunities to venture in a more forward-thinking manner as we continue to see an increase in the use of Electric/Hybrid vehicles. The courses we offer train automotive technicians to be more aware of, and competent in working on today’s high voltage electric/hybrid vehicles.

Peter Jackson BA (HONS), CAE FIMI, QTLS, Learning and Skills Lead for Automotive Engineering has been awarded a training and teaching fellowship from The Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, in partnership with the Education & Training Foundation, commented on the projected skill shortage, saying:

“Currently only 15% of automotive technicians are qualified to work on electrical vehicles meaning there could be a shortfall in qualified vehicle technicians of around 33,000 by 2030.”

The Automotive team have worked with several national companies this year to train staff members and to help other education providers with their own electric/hybrid course delivery.

In addition to this, they have supported major events which raise awareness of new automotive technology such as the British Motor Show, World Skills and the Great Exhibition Road Festival.

We invest in the best electric vehicle technology and experts in the field, these industry-standard workshops provide realistic and up-to-date opportunities to support students in their learner journey.

As outlined by a past EV/Hybrid student; “I enjoyed the level of interaction with our tutor, his excellent knowledge of the field and the high level of practical contact and good incidental learning.”

In our latest department expansion, there will be a new apprentice centre in Newark with the latest diagnostic equipment from Bosch, Hella, and Pico. This exciting endeavour is investing in the future of the ever-evolving automotive industry and providing more opportunities for learners.
