Would you like to learn practical creative art elements linked to art, media, theatre make-up, music, film and photography? Do you want to understand the creative arts industry better? Then this course is for you.
You will achieve a greater sense of independence and self-confidence by building on your skills and strengths. Following an accredited Aim Awards qualification, you will develop communication skills and enhance self-confidence through the use of practical creative arts-focused modules, which are adapted to ensure all abilities and styles of learning are met. Projects will be created to help promote upcoming events through marketing and merchandising.
All courses include English and Maths. Learners will follow accredited Functional Skills qualifications, as well as Continuing Personal/Professional Development, tutorials, enrichment and enterprise projects, and a work experience placement.

During this course you will look at:
Costume Design – To further enhance costume design skills by becoming involved with a performance (dance, acting, singing, music). Develop your skills in practice and production (designing, technical and administration) so you can understand all elements involved in staging a show.
Set Design – Learn how to design and create stage sets that support a performance. Explore layout, materials, and construction techniques, and understand how scenery contributes to storytelling, atmosphere, and the overall visual impact of a production.
Music Production – Learn how to create, record and edit music using digital tools. Explore sound mixing, layering, and basic production techniques to produce your own tracks.
Music Appreciation – Develop your listening skills by exploring a range of musical styles and genres. Learn how to analyse and understand music, including its structure, context and cultural significance.
Art Appreciation – Explore a range of artworks from different periods and cultures. Learn how to analyse visual elements, understand artistic techniques, and appreciate the meaning and context behind creative works.
Media – Learn how to create a storyboard, direct and produce a short film, write a script and develop film and editing techniques.
Photography – Learn how to transfer your images to computers, print, store and back them up so they become long-lasting memories safely and create a photographic exhibition of your work.
Theatre Make-up – You will look at different ways of applying theatrical make-up, as well as how to create special effects (cuts, bruises and burns).
Entry requirements
No formal entry requirements are needed but you should be working at Entry Level, have a desire to progress, a strong interest in the arts and have a willingness to learn. You’ll be expected to attend a Welcome Day, Taster and Interview.
An assessment will be carried out to determine your Maths and English levels. In addition, a Support Needs Assessment will also be carried out, to identify any additional needs. Applicants with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), will be subject to consultation.
Assessment & Progression
Assessment: Assessment is a collation of written work in a portfolio. Your practical and personal skills will also be assessed.
Progression This course offers you support with your studies and the curriculum is geared to get you to progress your independent living skills and develop yourself in ways which will help you to make the transition into mainstream studies or supported employment.
What You Will Need To Bring
You’ll need general stationery equipment such as; a pencil case, black/blue pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, pencil sharpener, A4 folder, A4 lined notepad, A4 punched pockets and file dividers. Please contact Student Services if you require financial assistance
