Lincoln College hosts a two-day Student Futures event during National Apprenticeship Week

The College's annual careers and apprenticeship fair was back and better than ever with over 50 local businesses exhibiting to students planning their next steps.

Some learners were even invited to attend an interview later that day after impressing the prospective employer.

The two-day event took place at Lincoln and Newark campuses as part of National Apprenticeship Week, a celebration across the country to highlight the positive impact that apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses, and the wider economy.

Students gained insight into the employment opportunities and apprenticeship vacancies available to them, as they engaged with representatives from local companies looking to recruit.

Andrew Fenwick, Managing Director at Super Soco, attended the event at Newark College with three electric motorbikes. He said, “We’re pleased to be here today as it offers an exciting opportunity for us, as a local business, to work in synergy with the College to offer employment to local people.

“We are recruiting for a couple of mechanic positions, and it has been great to meet the students. In fact, we’ve invited three potential candidates to come to the factory later this afternoon for an interview and to show them around.”

The College works closely with businesses to deliver employer-led courses and to train a skilled workforce that meets the demand for roles in the area. The careers fair is a fantastic opportunity for students to make the most of its industry links.

Electrical Installations student Declan Scarborough said: “I’ve found today very eye-opening, and it’s helped me to think about what I would like to pursue in the future. I have spoken mostly to Derry Building Services, Super Soco and McDonalds. I think it’s really good the College puts on events like this to help its students.”

College staff were also on hand to promote their courses for students looking to progress onto a next level qualification in September.
