Why Lincoln College?

A really Big Welcome

We call the first six weeks of College Life ‘The Big Welcome’. We have lots of activities and lots of staff focused on helping you to settle in, find your way around and get to grips with your course.

A safe place to study

Even though we have large campuses at Lincoln and Newark, we have security staff and wardens to patrol and make sure our students are safe at all times. ID lanyards are worn at all times.

Lots of support

Our Student Services team is there to help you every day. There is financial support available to you and a counselling service to help you if you need someone to talk to. We support your success.

Amazing facilities

From industry standard workshops and great libraries to amazing sports and leisure facilities – you’ll certainly notice a big difference from School and we want you to take full advantage!

How is college different from sixth form?

At College you’ll be treated like a young professional and our facilities are designed to reflect the true working environments.

Student Dress Expectations

As part of your induction at Lincoln College, Newark College and the Air & Space Institute, Newark, you will have been given information on our expectations of you as a learner.

While we have no uniform at Lincoln and Newark campuses, excluding ASI, we do expect you to dress in line with your course expectations.

Your ABC, which is your key to success, comes under the Be Ready to Learn code.

The ABC expects you to consider your (A)ttendance, (B)ehaviour and your (C)ommitment and our dress code should also reflect this.

Therefore we expect you to:

Attend your classes on time and in appropriate clothing and attire.

Behave, by following the dress code.

Commit, by dressing in a way that reflects your intentions for the future.

Students are reminded that the following pointers should be considered:

  • Always wear your ID badge with your lanyard. Staff will be challenging anyone without one to produce one or replace it for the day with a wristband which can be attained from reception. This is for your safety and wellbeing while on campus.

  • Wear clothes that are modest (not too revealing, transparent or excessively tight) and in line with a safe and appropriate learning environment.

  • We also want to ensure students don't wear anything that reveals underwear, carries rude or offensive messaging, symbols/images or words that would encourage violence, hate or political unrest.

  • Make sure clothes are clean and presentable.

  • Wear appropriate and safe footwear. A majority of our College campuses are spread out, so shoes such as high heels or flip flops are not recommended for safe travel around campuses.

  • Please try not to wear helmets, hoods or masks inside either, unless your course demands this as part of PPE.

It’s a little more informal

You're likely to be on first name terms with your lecturers and as long as you treat them with respect, you'll be learning in an environment where you're treated like an adult.

Our expectations are the same as employers

Although some things are more informal than school, we expect 100% attendance and we expect you to be motivated and professional. If these things start slipping we will start working with you to improve your performance.

You can manage more of your own time

Many courses require you to attend college for around three days a week. You'll have lots of work to do outside of this time, but we trust you to manage your own study time. Many of our students choose to work part time too - and we encourage this, as this gets you ready for the world of work - as long as you can manage your studies too!

You won’t just be doing a course

At our colleges you'll be doing a Study Programme that will include your main qualification, but also tutorials, Maths & English if needed, as well as work experience and industry placements.
