Honouring Stuart: A Celebration of Life and Legacy

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stuart Waters-Manning, a beloved student who touched the lives of many with his kindness, passion, and unwavering spirit. Stuart succumbed to complications from epilepsy, a condition he bravely faced throughout his life. In his memory, our college community hosted a series of fundraising events, ensuring that Stuart’s legacy of love, laughter, and enthusiasm for life continues to inspire us all.

Lincoln College hosted several fundraising events near the end of term in Stuart’s Honour. Stuart had a profound love for football, and in his memory, we are establishing an annual charity football match for students to participate in. This match will not only commemorate Stuart’s passion for the sport but also bring together our community in a spirit of camaraderie and remembrance.

In addition, staff hosted a Bike-a-thon event and BBQ, whilst Supported Education students organised a plant and cake sale, with all proceeds going to the Epilepsy Action charity.

Stuart's time at college was marked by dedication and growth. He completed two years on the Supported Education pathway, where he developed foundational skills and built lasting friendships. Following this, he spent a year on the Public Service programme, where he thrived and demonstrated his commitment to helping others and his community.

Staff are paying tribute to Stuart's good nature, enthusiasm, and hard work ethic. Curriculum Lead in Policing and Uniformed Protective Services, David Knowles commented: “Stuart was a delight to teach, always polite and well mannered, never afraid to give anything a try and always smiling. Stuart was a fantastic student learner and is greatly missed by his peers and the teaching team. If we had a class full of Stuart's every lesson, every lesson would be great due to willingness, enthusiasm and commitment to his studies and wanting to be best person he could.”

Alice Ferrier, Supported Education Lecturer, said: “Stuart was such a kind pupil. He was clearly a huge family man and loved sharing photos of his family holidays with staff. He was never afraid to be 100% himself and always knew how to cheer people up. He was such a polite and considerate young man who would always take time out of his day to chat to you. His presence is sorely missed by both staff and peers alike.”

In lieu of flowers, Stuart’s family asks for donations to Epilepsy Action, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by epilepsy. Epilepsy Action provides vital support, information, and resources to individuals and families managing epilepsy, as well as funding research to enhance treatment and find a cure. Your contributions can make a difference – if you can donate, please visit our fundraising page.

Stuart will forever remain in our hearts, and through our collective efforts, we hope to make a meaningful impact in the fight against epilepsy.
