  • Campus

    Lincoln Campus

  • Start Date

    September 2026

  • Duration

    1 Year (Full-time)

The Access to University programme (Access to HE Diploma) is an intensive course for those aged 18 and over, especially for people who are returning to Education.

It is specifically geared towards a graduate career and prepares you to study at university level towards future employment in various healthcare-related careers. The course aims to help you acquire the skills and knowledge needed to apply for various health / social care degrees, such as Adult Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science or Health and Social Care.

Completion of the Access to Health Professions course allows students to gain direct entry to their chosen degree; successful students can gain places at UK-wide universities as well as with local providers, Lincoln College University Centre, University of Lincoln and Lincoln Bishop University.

Entry requirements

18-year-olds applicants will need Mathematics and English GCSE (minimum grade 4 or equivalent) prior to enrolling on the programme.

Applicants aged 19+ must have either:

GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or
Level 2 Functional Skills in both subjects (pass)*

*Some universities may accept Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications instead of GCSEs. If you possess a Level 2 equivalent and have written evidence that the university you intend to apply to accepts them as part of their entry requirements, you will be accepted onto the Access to University course.

You must possess at least one Level 2 qualification in English or Maths. If you do not possess both English and Maths Level 2 qualifications (GCSE or Functional Skills), an alternative condition of entry is that you must complete a diagnostic test at a sufficient level to demonstrate you are capable of successfully studying and achieving the missing qualification alongside your Access to University studies.

Note, most international qualifications in English are not equivalent to Level 2 English Language and these learners are likely to complete the diagnostic test to see viability of completing Level 2 English language alongside.

Following any offers, you will also be given tasks to complete before starting the course to support you getting back into study.

Assessment & Progression

Assessment is via a combination of written assessments and assignments.

What You Will Need To Bring

You will require general stationery items and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
