    Lincoln Campus

  • Start Date

    September 2026

  • Duration

    2 Years (Full-time)

Do you enjoy learning about how simple parts and complicated machines are created, used, or fixed? Do you want to improve your hands-on and technical skills on the job? Then this qualification is a great fit for you.

This high-quality T Level Engineering programme can lead to an exciting career as an engineer. The qualification offers both a practical and academic focus and will provide you with skills, knowledge and understanding of subjects such as design, project, maths, materials and manufacturing principles within our Bishops Engineering Centre classrooms, workshops and laboratories.

The qualification is made up of a technical qualification and an industry placement within an engineering setting, which will allow you to develop crucial skills applicable to the working world that employers look for. The industry placement is a mandatory element of the T Level and is a 315-hour minimum placement with an engineering employer. Our team will help and support you with ensuring that you have a placement for the course.

In your first year, you will study one common engineering core curriculum. In your second year, you will complete your occupational specialism which will help you gain skills for the engineering pathway: Maintenance, Installation and Repair (Mechanical Engineering).

You’ll develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector.

During this course, you’ll learn:

  • Working within the Engineering and Manufacturing Sectors – an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products

  • Essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing – a knowledge and understanding of mathematics including standard matrices and determinants and standard trigonometry

  • Materials and their properties – understanding material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality, the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and techniques

  • Business, commercial and financial awareness - basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation

    • Entry requirements

You’ll need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at a minimum of Grade Four, including English Language and an approved Science-based subject. Due to the level of science and maths involved with the T Level, you must also have a GCSE Grade Five in Maths to enrol on the course.

Successful completion of the Level Two Diploma in Engineering will also allow access to the T Level.

You will also be required to attend a Welcome Day event (which includes a practical activity and interview) and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).

      Assessment & Progression

Assessment: You’ll be assessed on theory work and your performance in the workplace.

Progression: You could enter employment in the area of mechanical engineering as well as many other engineering sectors. Alternatively, you could choose to develop your skills further by continuing your education with us and undertaking a higher education programme.
